I am Alan Walshe, a native of County Waterford and grew up in Woodstown where I spent the summer playing on the beach and exploring the rockpools around Dunmore East. My passion for the outdoors started when I was introduction to angling by my father on Belle Lake where my Godparents hired out boats for a day’s fishing.

This passion for nature leads me to becoming an experienced guide and started guiding in Tramore back in 2004. I cover everything from coastal foraging, natural heritage to local history. But my passion is in environmental interpretation which is taking scientific information and making it relatable to everyone in a fun and interesting way. ”I believe that nature conservation starts with education.”

In the 2000’s I became a member of Tramore Community Radio Station. I was hosting two shows one called Homegrown and the other Nightjar.

With Homegrown I went onto win an award from BAI for talk radio.

In 2018 I left my full-time employment as a training liaison officer for a large Waterford company to get back to nature and explore my own business opportunities.

In 2019 I was lucky to get on a FETEC course on woodland maintenance and later caring for the vegetable gardens in the estate. While I was on this course, I really enjoyed the woodturning and with my knowledge of native timbers it pushed me into starting woodturning from home. I was able to sell my crafts from a local store and attend markets in Tramore.
